Specialist area-of-need positions
Be assessed for a specific specialist job in an officially designated area of need.
The idea
The college checks whether your qualifications and experience suit that particular job. The position must have official area-of-need designation; an employer reporting a shortage is not enough.
How it works
Ahpra considers registration for the approved role. This is position-specific, rather than permission to work in any specialist post.
If you want ongoing specialist recognition
The area-of-need assessment alone does not lead to specialist recognition in Australia. Ask the college about a combined assessment for the position and specialist recognition.
This is a general overview, not a confirmation of eligibility. Check current requirements with the responsible organisations below before applying.
