Short-term specialist training
Undertake a particular approved specialist or advanced training placement.
The idea
Eligible overseas specialists and advanced specialist trainees can undertake a specific training placement, usually for up to 24 months. These positions are short term and do not lead to general registration.
How it works
The relevant college checks your suitability for the placement. Following college approval, you can apply for limited registration to work in an approved position for a defined period of training. Registration remains subject to Medical Board approval.
If you want to stay longer
This route does not lead to ongoing general or specialist registration, therefore you will need to explore a separate registration route for longer-term clinical work.
This is a general overview, not a confirmation of eligibility. Check current requirements with the responsible organisations below before applying.
