Recognition as a specialist GP

Have your overseas general practice qualification recognised in Australia.

The idea

General practice is a specialty in Australia. General medical registration and specialist GP registration are different things.

How it works

The relevant GP college — RACGP or ACRRM — assesses your completed training and experience and sets any further requirements.

Other pathways

If you meet the exact qualifications for the Expedited Specialist pathway, you can be directly registered by AHPRA without college assessment.

You may also consider applying for a non-specialist role via the Competent Authority Pathway or the Standard pathway

This is a general overview, not a confirmation of eligibility. Check current requirements with the responsible organisations below before applying.
